School Meals
We are currently offering a cooked school lunch to pupils on Wednesdays and Fridays. The lunch is freshly cooked each day and uses local produce as much as possible. Pupils are required to sign up for a half term and pay in advance at a cost of £1.75 per meal. The meals are delivered in individual containers and the children provided with a knife and fork. Bread is also provided as is a pudding of fresh fruit. Pupils should bring their own drink.
On other days and if not having a hot meal on a Wednesday or a friday Children are requested to bring a packed lunch and a drink with a cup or a straw. Herefordshire Council does not run a School Meal Service, but makes arrangements for the supply of a packed lunch where it has a legal obligation to do so (free meals).
Application forms for free meals are available from school or for download here.
May we draw your attention to the fact that the School does receive additional funding from the LEA according to the number of pupils entitled to free school meals. The pupils do not have to take the free meals but if pupils are entitled to them the School does receive extra money in its annual budget.
Chewing gum is not allowed in school at any time.
National Fruit for School Scheme
The School participates in the above scheme whereby children in Years R, 1 and 2 are entitled to a free piece of fruit each school day as part of the government’s campaign to encourage children to eat more healthily. A parental agreement form is available for download here.
The Government does not include Key Stage 2 children in the above scheme, but the school encourages them to bring fruit, separate from their lunch, to eat during morning break.
Milk/Drinks/Water
Milk is available each day at playtime at a cost of 12p per 1/3 pint . Parents are asked to pay for a term or 1/2 term in advance (free to children under five). If a child is absent we still have to charge for the milk as it is already ordered and has to be paid for by the school.
Children are allowed to bring juice to drink at breaktime if they do not have milk. Fizzy drinks are not suitable. We aim to encourage pupils to drink more water to aid concentration in the classroom and individual water bottles are provided in the classroom for each pupil. It has been proved that 5% dehydration leads to 30% less concentration. Only water will be available in this way and children should still bring their own drink (not fizzy) for break and lunchtimes.
